Short term and Long term memory

Текст Раскадровки

  • Welcome to class everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. Our topic for today is Short-term and Long-term memory. Can someone define both of them for me?
  • Yes Miss. short-term memory is the ability to recollect a little amount of information from a recent time period.
  • Memory recall from a longer time ago is possible with long-term memory.
  • Miss, There are five models of memory such as multistore/dual-store model, Baddeley's model of working memory, serial-parallel independent model of memory, and memory neurostructural inter-systemic model (Shukla, 2022).
  • That is correct Abigail!
  • Long-term and short-term memory is used to help us remember things and act consciously or unconsciously. This has led cognition psychologists to study how our memory correlates with our brain's function and the effect it has. As a result, they were able to identify memory dysfunctions and how it affects normal functioning.
  • This is now the end of class! See you all Friday !
  • The distinction between the two is that cognitive psychology studies the relationships between thinking, emotion, creativity, and problem-solving abilities that affect how and why you think the way you do are a focus of the cognitive approach to psychology (Jordan, 2022). In contrast, Industrial-organizational psychologists carry out a wide range of duties, such as analyzing employee attitudes and behavior, assessing businesses, and providing leadership development (Cherry, 2019).
  • Hi Abigail! What do you think is the difference between Cognitive psychology and Industrial psychology? I know that the similarity between cognitive psychology and industrial psychology is that they both study human beings.
  • The principles of memory includes; Selectivity, meaningful organization, recitation, visualization, association, consolidation, and distributed practice ( Lincoln Land Community College, n.d) So for example; you could try recitation, Saying ideas aloud in your own words strengthens synaptic connections and gives you immediate feedback. The more feedback you get, the faster and more accurate your learning is.
  • Hi counselor Graham! Sometimes I have problems remembering information and I do not know how to work on it.
  • Welcome back to class everyone! What would you recommend for continued advancement within the field of cognitive psychology as it relates to short- term and long-term memory?
  • It is important that students pursuing cognitive psychology do extensive research on memory and provide effective treatment to cure memory dysfunctions
  • Effective testing, on the other hand, should be conducted to examine and identify potential chances of having memory issues from an early age.
  • According to McLeod (2023), In an experiment Murdock instructed participants to memorize and then freely remember a list of words that ranged in length from 10 to 40 words. The primacy effect and recency effect are terms used to describe how words in the beginning of a list are more likely to be remembered than those at the end. Murdock hypothesized that words near the top of the list were stored in long-term memory (primacy effect). The final few words on the list were retained in short term memory (recency effect), which may generally hold up to seven items.
  • Has anyone who did their research can tell me what they found out about Murdock experiment in 1962?
  • Good job! Researchers have benefited from this knowledge as it has helped them better understand how information can be stored in long-term memory and how short-term memory can degrade if it is not used within a short period of time.
  • I will go first miss! Long-term an short-term memory is used to help us remember things and act consciously or unconsciously Whereas, The ability to recall a small amount of information from a recent time period is known as short-term memory. Furthermore, Long-term memory allows for the recall of memories from a longer period of time
  • Okay guys! Since the end of class is approaching, I would like to test everyone's memory by asking you to tell me what you have learnt so far!
  • The multistore/dual-store model, the working memory model proposed by Baddeleys, the serial-parallel independent model of memory, and the memory neurostructural inter-systemic model are among the five models of memory. Also, cognitive psychology and industrial psychology both focus on individuals.
  • That is great! Also, Short-term and long-term memory research has led cognition psychologists to investigate how human memory corresponds with brain function and the impact it has.
  • Also, cognitive psychology studies the brain while industrial psychology studies behaviors and attitudes in the workplace. Selectivity, meaningful arrangement, recitation, imagery, association, consolidation, and distributed practice are among the principles of memory.
  • It is also important that students do extensive study on memory and develop effective methods to test for possible memory dysfunctions.
  • That was excellent class! Also, remember that The Murdock experiment has research because it has improved their understanding of how knowledge may be stored in long-term memory and how short-term memory can deteriorate if it is not used within a short period of time.
  • The class has now come to a end students! Please enjoy the rest of your weekend!
  • The End !
