  • THE PLOT
  • "Please help, invade Rome. Yours, Tarquinus". Hmm.. LET'S GO!!!
  • THE ENEMY
  • HEEEEEEELP!!!
  • THREE BRAVE MEN
  • C'MON BOYS! FOR THE GLORY OF ROOOOOOME!!!
  • IN 506 BC, the king of the Etruscan town Clusium, Lars Porsena, was asked to provide support to Tarquinus the Proud. Tarquinus had been the king of Rome but had been expelled by the people.
  • THE FIGHT
  • I wouldn't speak so soon...
  • The road between Etruria and Rome was defended by a fortress and a bride across the river Tiber. When the Roman guards saw the size of the Etruscan forces they ran back into the city leaving the bridge undefended.
  • VICTORIOUS
  • And please don't drown me. Amen.
  • A Roman soldier, Horatius Cocles, along with two of his friends, Spurius Lartius and Titus Herminius, rushed to the bridge. The bridge could be easily defended by only three because of its narrowness.
  • HONOUR AND GLORY
  • oh no...
  • Whilst the three friends defended the bridge, the Romans started to dismantle the bridge from the Roman side by hacking away at the bridge's foundations.
  • This was SUCH a good idea. Not only do we save Rome, but we also kill the people who actually did the fighting, so we get all the glory to ourselves!!!
  • Are you sure leaving him was a good idea?
  • Just before the bridge collapsed, Horatius told Lartius and Herminius to retreat. Once they had safely reached the river bank, Horatius prayed to the river Tiber to protect him and jumped into the river just as the bridge collapsed.
  • No, I'm not sure it was a good idea. It was HIS idea.
  • The Etruscan invasion had been stopped and Horatius was hailed as a hero for saving Rome from attack. He was rewarded by being given as much land as he could plough in just one day. He also had a statue erected to honour him in Rome.
