  • Yes, please
  • mom! I am having a school project in the holidays about maths in which I have to describe large numbers and their properties but.... I really don't know much about large numbers .
  • So, I am going to explain 3 things about large numbers-1. Rules on how to read and write them2.Different forms in which a large number can be expressed3. How to compare them
  • Do you want me to explain it for you Jack?
  • Umm..... nine million eighty thousand sixty-five?
  • So, there is nothing in the ones period which means it will be zeros then seven hundred fifty thousand and in the millions place there is two so.. the answer will be 2,750,000
  • I know the answer it is 2,750,00!!!
  • CORRECT !
  • In reading you start from the left to right and also don't say the zeros in a number for example how will you read 9,080,065 ?
  • Now, to write a number start from the ones period till the end, like there is two million seven hundred fifty thousand then how would you write it?
  • I understand everything but about the last form you said? The word form.
  • Standard form is the simplest one because you just write the number itself. In Expanded form you take a number and expand every single number in it by writing its place value except it's not for zeros
  • Jack, do you know that there are three forms in which you can write a number-Expanded form, Standard form and Word form
  • for example there is a number like 5,670,009 if you want to write it in expanded form you will write it like = 5,000,000 + 600,000+ 70,000 + 9
  • It's easy FIVE MILLION SIX HUNDRED SEVENTY THOUSAND NINE !!!
  • Let's learn about the last topic COMPARING LARGE NUMBERS . So, the first rule is that a number with more digits is larger than a number with less digits.
  • Like if there is 8,900,764 and 8,900,757 first they both have same amount of digits then I have to start comparing from the biggest place value 8 MILLION so the numbers changed in tens place and 60 is larger than fifty so...8,900,764 8,900,757
  • Of course! the word form involves expressing a number using words instead of numerals. Now how would you write 5,670,009 in word form?
  • Rule number two is that if both the numbers have equal digits look at the biggest place value and go from there to the left until you find a different number and then compare them (they should be at the same place value)
  • YES
  • It's evening already! Jack you should go outside to play with your friends.
  • THE END
