Moose diverged from deer 10 million years ago in Siberia, then migrated west across Europe. The most common fossils of the moose's ancestors are from the Irish Elk.
Irish Elk antlers could weigh 100 Ibs and be measured to 10 feet in length. Arrow wounds in other bones imply they were hunted to extinction.
Inhabiting North Amercia, the stag-moose looked like a cross between a moose and an elk, yet was in between sizes of both species. Like modern moose, it lived in mostly swampy habitats.
