  • Hi there, folks! My name is Alfonso, and I will be your tour guide today!
  • Here is an old Salish fishing ground. Washington's rivers and the Pacific were full of fresh fish. Pioneers and Native Americans used this fish as food. Robert Hume built something that changed the fishing industry-a plant that used heat and cans to preserve fish. Fish was shipped to several countries around the world, like South America and Britain.
  • We'll be looking at the sites of the growing industries of Washington in the past!
  • blah, blah, blah. . .
  • Two centuries ago, San Francisco was a shipping port. They needed wood for docks and ships. Where did they get it? The Washington Territory! The territory was changed by the logging industry, and made Olympia, Seattle, and Tacoma grow. Some of their wood was taken from this very forest!
  • Soon fish was not only a food source for the Natives, but a way to make money. But, alas, due to pollution and overfishing, the industry was soon exhausted. But who cares? It's mining time!
  • Cool!
  • Well, that's enough on logging. Let's move to fishing!
  • I am so going to get revenge on those two. . .
  • Why did I come here?
  • grrrrrr. . .
  • oh no. . .
  • Here is my favorite-an old mining site in the Puget Sound Lowlands! The lowlands and the Cascades were the main mining places. Coal was discovered there! Miners included Chinese people, miners from Wales and England, and even children were involved in mining!
  • how did those boys sneak away?
