In infancy, talking back to baby when they babble, making eye contact and singing can help begin to develop language skills.
At one year, babies love rhymes and songs. They also like parallel and self talk.
By 24 months, babies at using telegraphic or two word speech. Books are very important at this stage.
By 3 years old, children are using coequal speech. They are learning to speak in sentences.
By 4 and 5 years old children are chatty and very talkative and inquisitive.
