- The people of the community were "forced" to share what happened in their dreams, and what they felt during it. It can reveal any motives that could potentially overthrow the community in terms of power.

- The people of the community are given rules to follow, and are taught little. Knowledge and wisedom is limited and things of the past are locked up behind invisible bars. Even color and snow are forgotten completely.

- Free will is surrendered to a governing body that assigns every career, spouse, and child to ensure total social stability. Citizens must take daily medication to numb the emotions and desires that would otherwise drive personal decision-making. By enforcing strict language precision and removing all environmental variety, the community ensures that the very concept of a "choice" becomes unthinkable.

- SAMENESS / UNIFORMITY
- In the search for a way for everyone to be the same, the community got rid of what gave a person their individuality, the special way someone is. The environment was an issue, snow made transportation and the possibility of getting ill. So climate change was their solution.

- To ensure a perfect society befitting of a "utopian", everything of yours is decided since birth. Your family, your birthday/ceremony of (insert number)s, your meals, the way you look, the way you talk, the way you live. What you do is already decided from the moment you existed.

- CITIZENS UNDER SURVEILLANCE
- In each dwelling, there is a speaker that cannot be turned off, except for the Giver's. Audio is recorded and is listened to by the Elders, every confession is heard.
