This is the Sahara Desert from c.1200-c.1450. The Sahara Desert became a well known trading network that helped the Mali Empire flourish with the help of trade.

The Silk Road helped many countries to flourish including North Africa. The Mali Empire flourished due to the high demand of gold and ivory since they were luxury goods.

The Chinese merchant who just traded porcelain for gold then travels on a caravan to China using the Silk Road. He wants to boast and show off his wealth to his family.
The Silk Road is a land based trading route, that expanded trade and cultural diffusion. The trades during these times helped boost the Afro-Eurasia's economy. The SIlk Road was mostly dominated by the Chinese.
The Chinese Merchant then shows off his newly traded item to his friend since luxury goods were a sign of wealth. Most merchants seek to trade with other merchants while others seek for wealth.
I just traded in the Sahara Desert and there was many people with many goods! The economy is booming and I got to trade my porcelain with the rich gold of the Mali people!
