Yes. You are a cicindela puritana, or a Puritan Tiger Beetle. We are small, brownish, and have white lines on our wings.
As you can see, we have long legs that help us chase after and catch prey. We live alone in burrows and are only active during the spring and summer.
What kind of habitat do you all live in?
We live along the Chesapeake Bay, and the Connecticut River, in sand and clay. We remain here for our entire lives.
The climate varies, but usually we have warm summers, and cold winters, with seasonal flooding.
What about your species reproduction, and what role do you play?
We are an r species, and our species reproduces once yearly. Females carry multiple eggs for less than a month, then bury them. Larvae do not recieve care from adults.
We are carnivores, and we occupy the third trophic level. We eat many small bugs like fleas and flies.
What is wrong with your populations?
Our population growth rates are around 1.6, and we have a doubling time of 44 years.
Our populations used to inhabit 5 states, with multiple populations in each, but now we are limited to 2 states, and minimal populations of 1000 or less in each location.
I'm sorry. We overdevelop our coastlines, without consideration. We have listed you all as threatened and endangered.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has implemented a plan for your recovery, and multiple state programs are working on it as well.
Our issue is your population. It has developed too much of our habitat, and redirected water to destroy our habitat. We are an endangered species due to this
I need to get back to my people. I'm going to spread the word about you, and lessen my use of your habitat
Thank you. Interestingly enough, your government prohibited building and development on our lands because of our status.
