JC, Act 4, Scene 3 (pp. 62-74)

Text z Príbehu

  • Brutus condemned Lucius Pella for taking bribes from the Sardinians, him and Cassius were arguing about the matter.
  • I sent you various letters telling you not to condemn him, and you ignored me. You have done me wrong!
  • How dare you speak on behalf of such a man? Are you even honorable anymore?
  • After a heated argument, Cassius offers Brutus his dagger so that he could kill him. After both men realize that they are being somewhat dramatic, they forgive and embrace each other.
  • Here is my dagger, and here is my bare chest. Strike my valuable heart so you can use it instead of all the gold I denied the Romans.
  • Put away the dagger, Cassius. Oh, my anger is so fluctuant! One minute I’m in rage and the other one I’m cold again.
  • The men reconcile, a poet, who overhears the conversation, enters to scold the men for arguing, and ends up being kicked out by the nobles.
  • This man’s rhymes are terrible!
  • Stop right now!
  • What are you doing, generals? Love each other and preserve your friendship, as you have always done!
  • Take him away, Lucillius! And return with Messala.
  • After Messala entered the scene, the men discussed the events going on thanks to the plebeians’ and Antony’s riot.
  • I have received letters saying that Antony and Octavius are rushing to Philippi with immense hoards of power, even assassinating 70 senators, one of them being Cicero.
  • My letters say the same, my lord, and I also must tell you that your wife has passed away.
  • Well, good-bye Portia. We need to figure out what to do.
  • At this moment, the men discuss their approach to Antony’s, Octavius’ and the plebeians’ attack.
  • All right. We’ll rest and leave early tomorrow.
  • I don’t think think it is a good idea. It is better that the enemy comes after us so that they will be tired when they get here.
  • What do you think of marching to Philippi?
  • Listen to me, my brother. Our enemy can only get larger as they go through all the Roman villages. We can only decrease.
  • Finally, all the men, including Brutus’ guards fell asleep, Julius Caesar's ghost appeared, telling Brutus that they will meet again in Philippi.
  • I, your evil spirit, will see you at Philippi.
  • Alright, see you then.
