Part 5 Task

Text z Príbehu

  • why is everyone staring at us mama?
  • 'cuz you're black baby.
  • look at the tar baby! haha!
  • hey that's not nice
  • maybe running was my calling.
  • cant believe this jigaboo is really beating me. smh.
  • As Desirre returned to Mallard the color of her daughter's skin had many grabbing their chest and scratching their heads. The author states, “I just don't see how nothin that black coulda come out Desiree '' (Bennett 4) This quote not only demonstrates the personal bias that many of the townspeople held against anyone of a darker skin tone. But it also gives the reader a starter deception into how Jude looked, and why so many were so shocked.
  • Throughout the first few chapters it is apparent that Jude has had an effect on many in the community. Specifically, when she began to attend a school in the town. The author states, “Lonnie Goudeau was the first person to call her Tar Baby'' (Bennett 85) This quote demonstrates the effect that she is having on the other students. The effect that she has when she walks into the classroom could be viewed as a negative, and abnormal one.
  • maybe you are the love of my life.
  • At an early age Jude found that running could very well be her passion. The author writes, “She ran because she loved it, because he wanted to be good at something…” (Bennett 89) This quote demonstrates how Jude ran because she loves it. It also demonstrates that her passion for being good at something has driven her to become an even better runner. Running was her passion. It was her peace.
  • As Jude grows up it is noticeable that the one thing she does well is run. The author states, “She’d already accepted the track scholarship from UCLA - as if she could even think about turning it down..” (Bennett 83) This quote demonstrates that due to the fact that she ran track so well she had the ability to obtain a scholarship for it. It also demonstrates how her drive and passion will begin her path to success.
  • Once Jude moves to California, and has found comfort in Reese there are obvious behavioral changes with her. The author states, “ By springtime, she spent every weekend with Reese, so inseparable that you began to ask for one if you saw the other.” (Bennett 107) This quote demonstrates how Judes behavior began to change as she got more involved with Reese. She seems to be more open and loving towards him. Also finding someone who accepted her for who she was was a big turning point in the story. Simply for the fact that she never felt accepted.
  • At the end of chapter six Jude makes a shocking revelation. The author writes, “...where a woman just walked in…passing a hand through her dark hair, the bottle of wine shattered on the floor” (Bennett 141) Jude has just discovered Kennedy for the first time. Due to the fact that she is in just so much shock her first action after the realization was to drop the bottle.
