- It was December 1943. I was in the Italian resistance in Northern Italy. We were a ragtag bunch with little fighting experience. We were running in the mountains from the Nazis
- Look who I see here. Italian resistance! Guards, take them away!!!

- When I was captured, it was revealed that I was Jewish. And I was sent on a train to Auschwitz

- I don't believe him. We haven't had food for days.
- As soon as I got to the camp, I was told the first of many lies. Me and the other Jews on the train from the resistance were already so miserable
- Welcome to Auschwitz. Here, you will work hard and receive many rewards for your labor.
- The tattoo ended up being my serial number, or what I would be known as: 174517. We were also fitted with blue and white uniforms in which we would work in for the next two years
- I wonder why we need tattoos? What's the point?
- Now, you will all receive food when we will give it to you. Now go over there to get your tattoo!
- No. I will not trade my bread. I need to eat it to stay alive.
- This is where we're staying. This is horrible! And they only give us such small amounts of bread
- I agree Primo, but I think that we should start trading out small amounts of bread to try and get something in return
- Within the first few weeks, I wasn't sure I could go on. My friend Steinlauf helped me find my way. Without his message, I wouldn't have made it out.
- Hey Stienlauf. I'm not sure I can go on. It's been a week already.
- Work camps are meant to turn prisoners into beasts. Hang on to your humanity, even if it's one single shred of it, to stay alive.
