  • Ate Blu, do you want to recite the things we reviewed about our previous topic, The Evolution of Stellar Nucleosynthesis, before our class starts?
  • 15 minutes before the study break ends...
  • I would love to do that, Red!
  • I'll start by defining Stellar Nucleosynthesis itself. According to Ms. Plum last discussion, it is the process by which elements are created within stars by combining the protons and neutrons together from the nuclei of lighter elements like hydrogen.
  • Right! The first person to suggest that such a reaction, coined as nuclear fusion, was taking place in the stars was Arthur Eddington in 1920.
  • He stated that the conversion of hydrogen to helium was the stellar source of energy.
  • And then, later on, George Gamow developed a formula to calculate the probability of such reactions taking place. The formula is now known as the Gamow Factor!
  • The first one is the proton-proton cycle which takes place in the stars similar to the sun...
  • And, in 1939, Hans Bethe followed by proposing the processes used to convert hydrogen to helium.
  • And the second one is the CNO cycle taking place in much more massive and heavier stars!
