  • Act 2, Scene 1
  • Romeo loves Juliet so much that he can leave her. He sneaks back into Capulet's orchard and climbs the wall. Benvolio and Mercutio see him and call after Romeo. He runs away from them and Mercutio tries to call him back by making sexual remarks about Rosaline.

  • But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,Who is already sick and pale with grief,That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.
  • Romeo finds Juliet on the balcony of her room and hears her state that she wishes he would lose his last name. Romeo makes his presence known and agrees to lose his last name and be new baptized. They talk and Romeo swears his love to Juliet. Meanwhile, Juliet states that she wishes to take the relationship slowly. Romeo proposes marriage as an idea, and they agree to look into it the next day.

  • Act 2, Scene 3
  • Romeo meets Friar Lawrence in the field outside of the Friar's house. They go inside and discuss Romeo's relationships. The Friar originally thought that Romeo spent the night with Rosaline, but Romeo tells him that he has moved on to Juliet. The Friar agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet to stop the feud between their families.
