When Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, Austria-Hungary wanted to be part of the investigation. Serbia did not agree with this causing a conflict between the two.
Serbia refused to let them be apart of this and threatened war against them. Serbia also had France and Russia as allies so if a war between Serbia and Austria started they would be dragged in.
Austria-Hungary responded to Serbia by declaring war against them. This meant that many countries in Europe would have to take sides.This caused almost all of Europe to start fighting, eventually causing WW1.
