Soraya told Amir about her past, thinking Amir would change his mind after hearing about it. Amir did not change his mind because he believes people should not be chastised for their past. He thinks Soraya is better than him because she can share her secret, while Amir cannot bring himself to tell Soraya about how he has betrayed Hassan.
