Shay's Rebellion began after farmers, including their leader Daniel Shays, in Massachusetts in the year 1786 decided to rebel against the state and the debts/taxes imposed upon them.
The rebellious farmers find aid from many places/people, including a Chief Justice himself William Whiting. The farmers banded together to act against the Massachusetts legislature.
The rebellion and Shay himself devised a plan to raid Springfield federal arsenal. On January 25, 1787, 1200 men were waiting for the farmers at the arsenal.
Upon approaching the arsenal, the rebels were shot at, leaving 2 dead and 20 wounded. After this, the rebels had some of their rights as citizens stripped away from them.
Shay's Rebellion's conclusion proved a weakness in the young countries Articles of Confederation. The rebellion fueled some big names such as Alexander Hamilton and allowed him to show how state governments were too strong and use Shay's Rebellion as an example.
