On the 11th of December 1801 Jean Baptiste Francois Pompallier was born into a loving family. Pompallier was the third son of his mother (Francois Pompallier) and his father Pierre Pompallier who died when he was only 8 1/2 months old.

Bishop Pompallier arrived in NZ (in Hokianga) on the 10th of January 1838. He arrived with 7 others and they eventually settled into NZ.
Finally, we've arrived in NZ after a long trip. Four priests and three brothers of Society Of Mary accompanied me on my voyage.

Bishop Pompallier was made a priest on the 13th of June 1829, he then continued on as a priest until he was declared Bishop of Western Oceania on the 30th of June 1836. When Bishop Pompallier was younger he was in the Lyons seminary but eventually became the leader of his own missions.
