  • Kady couldn't wait any longer. She opened the comic to the first page, and almost immidately Seth say her go white. 'What? What is it?'"(Wooding 64).
  • "'What?' Seth demanded, getting scared now. She looked up at him, puzzlement and horror on her face. 'The boy in this comic. . . it's Luke.'"(Wooding 64).
  • Kady and Seth were discovering where their lost friend, Luke, was, and looking into a book called 'Malice', they found that answer to be grim and horrifying. Seeing the horrible news, the two wanted to find more about this book to see if they could atleast save anyone else

  • "'So when you get out of here, you don't remember a thing?' Clom asked, then sneered. 'Suits me fine.'"(Wooding 167).
  • "No matter what Seth found out in here, he would be unable to take it to the outside, to get it to Kady. If he tried to leave this place, he'd just end up the way Henry did. He wouldn't be able to help Kady anymore"(Wooding 167).
  • After going to Malice, Seth soon understood why the comic book was so alien to the real world, as regret started to spill into his mind while him and two other boys were looking for white tickets to leave Malice. Kady was still worried about him in the real world, but his idea of leaving dwindled to the new information. However, some children don't really mind forgetting what happens in Malice, as some have become desensitized toward their own memory

  • "Kady took her eye from the keyhole as she felt herself go cold. Tall Jake. Tall Jake was downstairs. Tall Jack was here, in this world, in reality" (Wooding 157).
  • "Because sooner or later they will connect Malice to the missing children, and that could make things very hard for us. Why do you think we use an ink that fades over time on contact with air?""(Wooding 156)
  • "This is your world, Scratch. I have no choice but to trust you. But I have enemies still, hidden or lost, and the time may come when they think to move against me-" (Wooding 157).
  • After Kady followed the shopkeeper toward their location due to her knowing that Seth wouldn't come back, she soon learned that Malice was a much bigger and scarier threat then she'd thought
