one major theme of The monsters are due on maple street by Rod Serling is that humankind is it's own worst enemy. One exapale that supoorts this theme is when Tommy stops Charlie and Steve from leaving Maple Street to go downtown/police station, This shoes that humans are it's own worst enemy, because if Tommy didn't stop Charlie and Steve from leaving to go downtown they could've found the issue and Maple Street wouldn't turn into Chaos. Another reason, is when Steve was trying to calm everyone down and lead the residents the right way. Charlie raises suspicion and starts accusing the person that's trying to lead and when he gets accused back he tries to use a scapegoat and blames it on the little kid/teenager and then everyone starts getting worried and nervous and starts to panick and in result all of them end up fighting. To conclude, these are some reasons on why I think the theme of The monsters are due on Maple Street is humankind is it's own worst enemy
