In the story one of the major problems was food and leadership. They were going to solve this by hunting. In the story it shows how they talk about wanting to just go to get food and not find a "beast" .“We’ll go into the forest now and hunt.”
“Now!”The drove of pigs started up; and at a range of only ten yards the wooden spears with fire-hardened points flew toward the chosen pig." This part of the story is talking about how they hit the pig and killed her. They shot with a spear with na a no accurate depth perception so which shows how the pig wasnt special.
"They were just behind her when she staggered into an open space where bright flowers grew and butterflies danced round each other and the air was hot and still." I this part of the story they were looking for the sow and finally found her but she wasnt quite dead yet so they would have to finsih her off.
At last Simon gave up and looked back; saw the white teeth and dim eyes, the blood—and his gaze was held by that ancient, inescapable recognition. In Simon’s right temple, a pulse began to beat on the brain. In this part of the story The boys were getting taking over by salvagery. Simon finally looks up and gives in even though he is the one that is supposed to be "good".
The boys reliezed they lost a lot of their humanity when they were with the "beast". After talking about it they remembered the most important thing.. fire. “The fire’s the most important thing. Without the fire we can’t be rescued.
