The Spanish Inquisition is described, and the narrator is arrested. He is a Frenchman, a foreigner. "...which the church of that ancient land violently demanded that all people accept its hateful teachings"(Poe).
The Pit
This is smaller than I expected.
Ahhhh
The narrator is tried and sentenced to death. He is carried away by dark-robed figures. "The sentence, the dread “sentence of death”: these were the last distinct words which reached my ears"(Poe).
The Pendulum
The narrator is then thrown into a dungeon. He explores a little before tripping and falling. "I staggered onward for some time, and then I stumbled and fell"(Poe).
Walls of Fire
Nope you are saved.
After waking up, the narrator finds a pit and checks how deep it is by tossing a rock into it. Shortly after he is fed some drugged food and falls asleep. "The walls of the cell were likewise different from my imaginings"(Poe).
The speaker is bound to a piece of wood and faces a swinging pendulum. He uses food to lure the rats near him and to chew his binds to free himself. "With the particles of the oily and spicy food which now remained, I thoroughly rubbed the leather strap wherever I could reach it"(Poe).
The walls of the prison begin to heat up and close in on the narrator. He is saved by Napoleon general Lasalle right before falling into the pit. "An outstretched arm caught my own as I fell into the pit"(Poe).
Woah this is the end I guess.
