- Hey Timothy what brings you to class so early?
- Hey Mr. Charles i've just been so loss in your class I needed to come early to ask you a question.
- Alright so what is your question?
- Yesterday during class you were explaining Newton's laws. When you got to the last one I was lost, could you explain it to me again?
- It's simple really, so let's take this book for example. You would say that this book has a force directed towards the table because of gravity right?
- Yea all the weight from the book is pushing down on the table
- Well what if I told you there was another force acting on the book?
- What other force, like air resistance?
- Nope the other force acting on it is the table. While the book is pushing down the table is also pushing in the opposite direction with an equal amount of force.
- So the table is pushing the book the opposite way with a equal force?
- Exactly, that's is what Newton's third law is about, every force has an equal and opposite force going against it. Does that help clear things up?
