Move into the city and charge fire among the people.
We agree.
We have to do something, Or else, we all will be killed today!
It all started when King Louis the XVI, ordered troops to move within the city and charge fire among the common people on 14th July, 1789.
Rumours spread across the city and the common people became alarmed of the incident. They gathered in front of the townhall and decided to form a peoples' militia.
After formation of the peoples' militia, they broke into several groups and went into government institutions in search of arms and weapons to defend themselves.
Finally, a group of several hundred people marched towards the eastern part of the city and stormed the fortress-prison, the Bastille, where they hoped to find hoarded-ammunition.
In the armed fight that followed, the commander of the Bastille was killed and the prisoners were released. The attempt of the peoples' militia was successful.
The fortress was demolished and its stone fragments were sold in the markets to all those who wished to keep a souvenir of the destruction.
