One of the things I've newly learned throughout this class was cultural relativism. Before, I never put much thought into how my own background shapes and influences the way I view other people and their customs.
Learning about this concept helped me realize why it's so important to keep an open mind and not be quick to judge other cultures just because they're different from mine. It helped me step outside from my perspective and try to see the world from someone else's point of view.

The idea of ethnocentrism and how to avoid it will definitely come in handy in my future, given that I plan on having a career in public relations.
Understanding how readily and quickly other people judge other cultures by our own standards was an eye-opener to communicating thoughtfully and inclusively.
Whether I'm writing to a diverse audience or working with different cultures, I would think this mindset would make me more respectful, efficient, and sensitive to the power dynamics in communication.

In five years, I think I'd still remember the four major subfields of anthropology: cultural, biological, linguistic, and archaeological, mainly because of the way it helped me appreciate and understand how complicated and interconnected humans and their lives are.
I'll also remember the participant observation research method, a concept that the best way to understand a culture is to fully immerse yourself in it.
This principle has taught me that genuine understanding doesn't come from observing from a distance but from being present, listening, and letting go of any assumptions. I think that's a reminder that surface-level interactions rarely ever tell the full story and empathy is about stepping into the unfamiliar with open-minded curiosity and the willingness to learn.
