- Odysseus and his men land on the island of the Cyclopes. Odysseus takes his men up to the cave to explore the mighty island and to see what the Cyclopes are like.
- When Odysseus and his men enter the cave they find a drying rack that sagged with cheeses and pens crowded with lambs and kids.
- When the Cyclops returns to his cave he finds strangers and Odysseus addresses him. Who are you strangers? asks the Cyclops. Odysseus responds We are from Troy, Achaeans. The Cyclops replies You are a ninny. The Cyclops takes a boulder and traps the men in the cave.
- The Cyclops devours some of the men and Nohbdy quickly thinks of a plan to get out of the cave. Nohbdy decides to get the Cyclops drunk and to blind him while he is drunk so then they can escape. Nohbdy gives the wine in his bag to the Cyclops to wash down the men. Tricked, the Cyclops falls over from being drunk. Odysseus and four of the strongest men drive a six foot pole into the Cyclops' eye.
- In a rage the blinded Cyclops runs out of the cave in agony. The Cyclops cries Nohbdy has tricked me! Nohbdy has ruined me! Nohbdy devises a strategy to slip past the Cyclops unnoticed. Nohbdy and his men slip under the bellies of the sheep and hide from the Cyclops.
- Rolling clear from the sheep Nohbdy and his men race back to their ship to escape. In his prideful moment, Nohbdy reveals himself to the Cyclops. For he is Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye: Laertes' son, whose home's on Ithaca. The Cyclops then prays to his father Poseidon to curse the Son of Laertes and to not let him return to his home on Ithaca.
