The narrator receives a letter from his childhood friend, Roderick Usher, asking for a visit from him since he is not feeling good emotional and physically. In addition, Usher and his sister, Madeline, is the only ones left in their bloodline.
The narrator goes to Usher's mansion notices the fungi and spider webs outside the mansion.
