Text z Príbehu

  • John Brown was a very religious man from Connecticut. At a young age, he witnessed slavery and thought that it was against God and the Bible.
  • Slavery is a sin against God. In no way should it be allowed in my America! It is my duty to end it!
  • In 1854, after Brown moved to other states and took it upon himself to end slavery, Congress passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The act stated that the once free territories of Kansas and Nebraska would have a vote on if slavery would be allowed or not.
  • This is an outrage! I am going to go to Kansas and vote against slavery if it's the last thing I do!
  • Whatever you say John!
  • In Kansas, a group of Border Ruffians brutally murdered a man who was against slavery. In response, Brown and some of his men also brutally killed 5 men who wanted to have slavery. This was known as the Pottawatomie Massacre.
  • ARGHHHHHHH!
  • After the Massacre, Brown fled up to the North. There he came up with a plan. In hopes of starting a slave revolt, Brown and some men would take over the U.S. Armory and Arsenal at Harper's Ferry in Virginia. After they captured it, John figured that slaves would hear the news and try to fight, however, this is not what happened. No slaves helped Brown and local proslavery farmers and the U.S. Marines came to capture or kill the men.
  • OWWWWWW! We're done for!
  • I'm not going down without a fight!
  • After the raid at Harper's Ferry, Brown was charged with murder, treason, and slave insurrection. His lawyers tried to argue that he was insane, however, Brown insisted that he was not insane. Therefore, he was convicted and hanged. He knew that a war would be started over the conflict of slavery.
  • I am quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood.
  • NOOOOO!
  • During the Civil War, Northern soldiers had John Brown on their minds. They would sing a song called "John Brown's Body" happily if they won a battle and sadly if they lost. John Brown gave up his life in order to end slavery and so would some of them.
  • "...his soul goes marching on!"
  • The End
