Partition of India

Text z Príbehu

  • Šmykľavka: 1
  • After speaking with a Hindu and considering his points, it seems that Indians constitute one nation and thus should be one country.
  • Šmykľavka: 2
  • All of the Desi people belong under one Indian government. There is no need to divide a people who have been together for such a long time, coexisting despite religious divide.
  • But what about the differences is culture? National identities?
  • Šmykľavka: 3
  • Those people in 'Pakistan' regions are not outsiders or foreigners. They do not have a totally independent culture. While Muslim and Hindu Indians are different, it is not the same as an Indian Hindu and an Englishman.
  • So then India should stay a single nation!
  • Šmykľavka: 4
  • As a Hindu, what are your feelings about the Partition?
  • Well, I'm against it of course! There's simply no need to weaken our great India!
  • Šmykľavka: 5
  • But aren't the people of India more alike than different, regardless of religion?
  • Šmykľavka: 6
  • India must, then, embrace Partition!
  • Šmykľavka: 0
  • No no no! Hindus and Muslims are not the same! How could we Muhammadans find satisfaction in a government of Hindus! We would be politically dominated by them!
  • Muslims have totally different ways of lives than Hindus. We must be able to form our own government to reflect that we are our own nation and people.
  • To allow our people to become a minority yet still constitute so much of the country will lead to many issues, more for us than for Hindus. Our two nations simply cannot coexist!
