Fever 1793 is a book about a girl who lived during the yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia and what she went through. My favorite scene from Fever 1793 is when Mother returns after the epidemic. When the scene started, Mattie and Eliza had good business and many people came to eat and visit. Nathaniel ran into the coffeehouse blurting out that George Washington had returned to Philadelphia. Mattie, Nathaniel, and all of the customers rush out the doors to see General Washington riding by. Behind his carriage, there were others and Mother was in one. Mattie finds out that her mother has returned. Mattie does not easily recognize her mother because she looks old and frail. Mattie is very surprised at what she sees. This scene is important to the story because this shows that the fever is over and people are returning to the city.
