- Today, when I saw my sister, Delia, beating Biryuk with a stick, I felt angry. Biryuk hugged the earth and screamed but I could not bound forward nor cry out to my sister. She had a weak heart and she must not be surprised.
- I was reminded of the time I was thirteen when my father first took me to go hunting. All through the summer of that year, while hunting, I met Biryuk in the woods while hunting some birds.
- I hope that dog makes a hunter out of you.
- Biryuk scampered off and my sister flung the stick at him. When she saw me. She told me to come to her. When I did,#160; she warned that she will tell Berto to kill Biryuk if she sees him again, then, she pushed me to the ground, but I kept quiet.
- Eddie! If I see that dog again, I will tell Berto to kill him!
- My sister was the meanest creature I knew. Nothing I did ever pleased her. She destroyed anything I liked. She told Berto to kill my monkey because it snickered at her. She did not like my pigeons so she forced me to give it away. She dumped my butterflies into a waste can and burned them in the backyard, my entire butterfly collection!
- That's bigger than the one you found last year, isn't it?
- On my way back to the house, I passed the woodshed. I saw Berto splitting wood. When he saw me, he stopped and called me. He showed me a red centipede.
- Yes, it's very much bigger.
