many years ago we were under the Indian act. While we were under it we were called Indians for legal reasons.
way back to the 1400 to 1900 we were called Indians by the British government
not to get u confused with Indians that originate from southern Asia

As time passed on people started to recognize that the term Indian was a little out dated and could be viewed as racist.
now we are called Indigenous because we are indigenous to the land and we originated from this land.
Many Indigenous people are from different nations For example I am Metis But there are other tribes like First Nations and Inuit.
