- I can't breath!
- As the algae increased in the Lake, the water became murkier. The remaining species of Cichlids that survived couldn't see well enough to find a mate to reproduce. The Cichlids started dying.
- The dead Cichlids rotted at the bottom of Lake Victoria. This deprived the oxygen in the lake. By 1990s, 50-70 percent lacked oxygen.
- Around 1990 another invader plant appeared in Lake Victoria. This plant, called a water hyacinth, floated down the Kagera River from Rwanda and into the lake. This plant grows very fast. In the shallow waters of Lake Victoria, the water hyacinth thrived unchecked. By 1996 it had 90 percent of the lake's shorelines. all of the lake breed around this shorelines.
