- Brina's parents are getting a divorce. He is flying to the canadian oil fields to see his dad. Brian was thinking about the divorce "secret". The pilot has a heart attack and is in a serious coma and dies.
- Chapter 4
- Brian realizes that there is nothing he can do for the pilothe doesn't know CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He tries to rack his brain for any ideas on how to fly the plane. He realizes that he cannot fly it, so he uses the radio to ask for help.
- Chapter 5
- Seeing only trees rather than lakes directly in front of him, Brian becomes convinced he will not survive the plane's descent. Finally he spots an L-shaped lake, uncertain whether he has enough speed to reach it. At that instant the plane hits the trees, shooting through them and landing on the lake.
- Chapter 6
- Brian figures out "the secret", that his mom was having an affair with another man. Brian slowly absorbs his surroundings and his body aches with all of the injuries he has from the crash. Mosquitoes swarm his body and the bare parts of his skin ache in pain. Brian feels lucky that he avoided hitting the rocks in the distance.
- Brian wakes up in the forest and he realizes that he is desperately thirsty. He feels as though he might ''wither up and die'' if he doesn't get something to drink. ... As soon as the water hits his mouth he drinks until he can't drink any more
- Brian remembers him and terry pretending they are in the woods."The Secret" as soon as he returns home. Brian finds some unfamiliar bright red berries to eat, which turn out to taste very bitter. However, left with little choice, he eats them until the pangs of hunger subside. Since Brian has no matches he must think hard about how to start a fire; for now, he works to improve his shelter by interweaving sticks into the walls.
