He was born into a middle-class family on April 28th, 1908 in, ironically, Zwittau [Swiss- tohw] , modern-day Czecoslovakia. At the time Czecoslovakia was part of the Austro-Hungrian Empire with Zwittau in the Sudetenland Religion.
Itzhak Stern
Bordered on the north by true Germany, the region was populated by several ethnic German families. However, on October 29th 1918, Sudetenland declared its independence from the Empire and renamed itself Czecoslovakia, after the ethnic Czechs and Slovaks, at the end of WW1.
Polish Winter
In 1935 Oskar Schindler joined Konrad Henlein's Sudetendeuschte Heimafront, a Nazi organization to split Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia and join Germany. In 1936, he also joined the Abweher, Germany's intelligence agency, suppossedly for the money.

In November 1938 the Abwehr sent the Schindlers to Ostrava, an industrial city on the Polish border. There he began bribing local Nazis with black market luxuries. The next summer Schindler signed a contract to supply a Nazi agent with stolen Polish army uniforms.
On November 13th, 1939, he purchased a Krakow enamel factory previously by Jews and rehired Jewish business owner, Abraham Bankier as the manager.
