  • QUOTE FROM ONE CRAZY SUMMER by Rita Williams-Garcia
  • JET
  • "The Mike Douglas Show wasn't the only place to find [Black] people on television. Each week, Jet magazine pointed out all the shows with [Black] people. My sisters and I became expert counters. We had it down to a science."
  • This quote is poignant because it speaks to the fact that Black people were vastly under-represented in the media and other spaces (and still are).Delphine remarks that there were so few people that looked like her and her sisters on T.V. that they made a game out of counting them and keeping track of the amount of lines they had.It illustrates how important it is to feel represented in all aspects of society.
