  • Double, double toil and trouble,Fire burn, and cauldron bubble...
  • What is't you do?
  • A deed without a name.
  • The witches gather in a cave with their cauldron, casting a spell. They chant to "double toil and trouble," revealing that the spell is going to be used on Macbeth.
  • Even till destruction sicken, answer me to what I ask you.
  • Macbeth enters the cave, hoping to get answers from the witches about what his fate is. He wants to know if he will stay in power, and if he will even live to remain as king.
  • Speak.
  • Demand.
  • We'll answer.
  • Macbeth questions the witches as to what they are doing, but they do not tell him.
  • Say, if th' hadst rather hear it from our mouths or from our masters'.
  • Call 'em. Let me see 'em.
  • Macbeth makes a speech saying that even though the witches can destroy whatever they please, he demands that they answer his questions.
  • The witches know he has come to inquire about his future. They know his fate, and agree to tell him what he wants to know.
  • The witches have not only agreed to answer Macbeth's questions, but will allow him to speak with their demon superiors as well. The witches begin to call upon the spirits. Macbeth is so invested in his life that he does not care if he becomes involved with dark forces like the witches or their bosses.
