The King sent a hunstman into the forest to find him a roe. 2 more followed, but they too were lost. He sent knights to find all the huntsmen, but no one came back.
A brave hunter offered to venture into the forest with his dog. As the dog was chasing his prey, he fell into a lake. An arm grabbed him and pulled him under.
They emptied the water, captured the being, and caged him in the palace courtyard. The young prince dropped his ball in the cage and had to let him out to get his ball back.
When the door opened, the man jumped out and took the boy to the forest. To thank the boy, the man had him guard his magic well, but the boy was to not touch the water.
The boy did and his finger turned to gold. He did it a second time, and the third time his hair was turned to gold. He was asked to leave.
He found work in a castle garden and caught the eye of a princess. To take her hand, he ended a war, and caught three golden apples three days in a row.
He confronted the king as the garden boy and proclaimed his victory.
The man from the forest came and explained how the boy had broken the curse. He presented himself as Iron John. The boy, Iron John, and everybody lived a happy life from then on.
The boy and princess get married and he reunites with his parents.
