  • After escaping the Cyclops, Odysseus reaches Aeolus, the god of wind's floating island.
  • Aeolus lets them stay there for a month.
  • Aeolus gives Odysseus a bag of bad winds.
  • "Odysseus and his men land on the island of Aeolus, the wind king" (Collections, page 386)
  • Aeolus leaves a fair wind behind which will blow him all the way back to Ithaca.
  • ...... and stay with him a month. (Collections, page 386)
  • "To extend his hospitality Aeolus gives Odysseus two parting gifts: ...... and a great bag holding all the unfavorable, stormy winds." (Collections, page 386)
  • That is when the men open the bag and  all the bad wind escapes and blows them back to Aeolus' island.
  • "To extend his hospitality Aeolus gives Odysseus two parting gifts: a fair west wind that will blow the fleet of ships towards Ithaca, and ...... " (Collections, page 386)
  • "Within the sight of home, and while Odysseus is sleeping, the men open the bag, thinking it contains gold and silver." (Collections, page 386)
  • Odysseus leaves and takes a nap when he can see Ithaca.
  • "The bad winds thus escape and blow the ships back to Aeolus' island. The king refuses to help, believing now that the voyage has been cursed by the gods." (Collections page 386)
