  • The Boston Tea Party
  • The British East India Company, which sold British tea, was financially struggling since colonists were refusing to buy tea, so Parliament passed the Tea Act of 1773. This act lowered taxes on the tea sold by them and let them sell straight to shopkeepers. Because this made the tea from the company cheaper than the tea from colonial merchants, the British East India had an advantage when it came to selling tea.
  • It's a good thing I'll be able to buy tea for a low price from the British East Indio Co.
  • Colonial merchants wanted to boycott the British tea, while Sam Adams and others claimed that the Tea Act was an attempt to strip colonists of their liberties.
  • The Tea Act is trying to remove our liberties!
  • I won't be able to sell my tea! We must boycott British goods!
  • The Coercive Acts prevented the arrival of food and supplies being delivered by ship, banned town meetings, and forced colonists to shelter solders in their homes. The colonists started calling the acts the Intolerable Acts because of how harsh they were.
