Storyboard Text

  • In the Loisel apartment...
  • AHHHHH! I lost Madame Forestier's necklace!
  • What! ... Impossible! I'll search the ground we walked. If I can't find it, I'll go to the police station, to the newspapers, and to the cab companies.
  • By the end of the week...
  • We must see about replacing the diamonds. Let's see the jeweller's name engraved in the box of the necklace.
  • At Madame Forestier's...
  • Here's your necklace. Sorry for the late return.
  • You ought to have brought it back sooner; I might have needed it.
  • That night, I didn't want to do anything. I felt weak, so I just remained in my evening clothes and huddled on a chair. The necklace was not retrieved. We need time to look for it, so I wrote to Madame Forestier explaining that the clasp of the necklace broke, and we are fixing it. I don't know WHAT will happen if Madame Forestier finds out about this.
  • After the purchase ...
  • We still haven't found it. We decided to buy a new necklace. The jeweller written down only supplied the clasp, so we needed to look for other jewellers. Finally, we found a necklace that looked exactly the same at Palais-Royal, which cost 36,000 francs.
  • 10 Years Later, along the Champs-Elysees ...
  • Oh, my poor Mathilde! But mine was imitation. It was worth at the very most five hundred francs!
  • Oh! ... my poor Mathilde, how you have changed!
  • Good morning, Jeanne. It's me, Mathilde.
  • Remember when I returned your diamond necklace? I bought it.
  • My husband, Loisel, possessed 18000 francs from his father. He borrowed the rest, and finally paid for the necklace. When I returned it, I was scared about Madame Forestier noticing the substitution.
  • This is how it feels like to be abjectly poor. We dismissed our servant, we changed our flat, we fought for money, and I had to do the duties around the house. It was arduous. Someone like me shouldn't need to deal with this lifestyle.
  • Everything was finally paid off, but the necklace actually costed 500 francs. How unfortunate. I don't look beautiful and admired anymore. If this never happened, I wonder if I could have been rich! I should have been honest, but I didn't want to look foolish...
