Storyboard Text

  • The Green Knight introduces himself to King Arthur and the round table declaring a game he wants them to play. 
  • "You haven't a man that could match me, your might is so feeble. And so all I ask of this court is a Christmas game" (lines 64-65).
  • Gawain offers himself to take on the challenge of the green Knights game.
  • "I myself am the weakest, of course, and in wit, the most feeble; my life would be least missed if we let out the truth" (Lines 136-137).
  • Gawain wanted to show his bravery by striking at the Green Knight before the games can even begin. But the green Knight did not die, he picked up his head and left. 
  • " Sir Gawain laid hold of the ax and hefted it high, his pivot foot thrown him forward on the floor, and then, swiftly, he slashed at the naked neck" (lines 152-154).
  • Gawain was requited to find the Green Chapel. On his journey, he came across what he thought was another castle where a lady inside offered him gifts. The most prized one was a sash of protection.
  • "On the third day, Gawain continues to resist the lady, but she presses him to accept another gift" (pg 216).
  • Gawain fights the Green Knight who in which then reviles the sash and lady was his. 
  • "Giving me all you owed as a good man should. I feinted a second time, friend, for the morning you kissed my pretty wife twice and returned me the kisses"(lines 341-343).
  • the Green Knight proves Gawain honorable giving him the sash as a they part ways.
  • " And I give you, sir, this gold-embroidered girdle, for the cloth is as green as my gown"(Lines 387-388).
