  • PEACE!
  • Cubans rebelled for the second time, so Spain sent troops to end the rebellion. Since Cuba wanted America to help them gain independence, they burned their sugar cane and reported exaggerated stories.
  • US Demands to the Spanish
  • Cuba's independence!

  • The U.S.S. Maine moved to the Havana Harbor to protect US protorty and citizen, but it exploded killing 250 America citizens. America blamed it on the Spanish.
  • Treaty of Paris
  • President McKinley hesitated to call for war, so peace was still maintained.
  • Territory Gained
  • The US sent demanded to the Spanish to aviod war breaking out. Sain accepts all but Cuba's independence which causes war.
  • On December in 1898, once the war is over, US signs the tready of Paris with Spain. Spain recognizes Cuba's independence.
  • Treaty of Paris
  • In return for 20 million dollars, Spain gives the US the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam which became US territories.
