Storyboard Text

  • Oh, hey. I didn't think I would meet you here. What are you doing?
  • Hey. I was just doing my math homework, but I can't figure out an answer to this question.
  • Subtracting polynomials, huh? Maybe I can help.Follow me.
  • Alright.
  • Just let me see the question again.Alright, so you have to create a expression in which one polynomial has to be subtracted from another.
  • We're here!
  • Well, if the total area is (5y+2y)(10x-3x) and  (2y)^2 is removed or subtracted..... The equation would be (5y+2y)(10x-3x) - (2y)^2, right?
  • We're here!...Why exactly are we here?
  • Do you see the first row of books on this shelf?
  • Imagine the area of the rectangle created by the row is (5y+2y)(10x-3x)
  • Yep.
  • The area of this new empty space is (2y)^2.What is the new total  area after removing the books?
  • Alright. Easy enough.
  • (5y+2y)(10x-3x). Okay.
  • Now, imagine I emptied one of the shelves.
  • Exactly! There's your answer using a real-world example!
  • Thank You!
