  • African American's in Politics
  • 40 Acres and a Mule
  • The KKK
  • Even though black codes restricted their rights, some African Americans became politicians and fought for more freedom.
  • Enforcement Acts
  • General Sherman promised freed slaves land and animals during the Civil War but didn't give them anything because most Republicans considered private property a basic American right so they decided to give it back to plantation owners.
  • Panic of 1873
  • The KKK wanted to destroy Republicanism and stop African American's from gaining freedom. 
  • Election of 1876
  • Enforcement acts were passed to send troops where the KKK met to ensure that African American's were safe.
  • Enforcement is needed!
  • Release acts against the KKK!
  • The downfall of Reconstruction started when a bunch of banks failed causing The North to takes its attention away from The South.
  • The election of 1876 marked the end of Reconstruction when Rutherford B. Hayes was elected, withdrawing troops from The South.
