Storyboard Text

  • Good Afternoon, Emperor. I sadly inform you that An Lushan and his army of Uighurs have finished attacking our land, the Middle Kingdom.  Many have been wounded and millions are presumed dead. Unfortunately, they expect us now to pay tribute to them. They demanded millions from us.
  • What! They killed millions and demanded millions of dollars from us!. I never believed this would happen to our all powerful Tang Dynasty! Think about it. We invented the equal field system, the civil service exam, and spread Buddhism. Well, Xuanzang did that. Our dynasty will never recover. Not even with our surpluses of fast-ripening rice producing economy will we recover. WOW! I'm worried.
  • With our flying cash system, it will keep track of who buys our products, making commerce so much easier.
  • With the help of the compass, our most profitable exports will be easily transported to the Byzantine Empire and India because it makes navigation so much easier.
  • The boxes of rice, porcelain, and gunpowder  are at the back of the  junk and ready to be transported.
  • The Tang Dynasty has fallen. I am Emperor Song Taizu, emperor of the new dynasty, the Song Dynasty. I will expand the bureaucracy to the poor and those who do well on the Civil Service Exam will become apart of the Scholar Gentry, an elitist group
  • Of course, my love. I would move heaven and earth just to make you happy.
  • My dear, I must go to the salon to receive my feet binding. I want my feet to appear as beautiful as possible even if it hurts. After all, we are not peasants now are we.
  • Well, what can I say? Our civilization became wealthy off of rice, porcelain, and gunpowder trade to states around the world.
  • I find it amazing how wealthy we became through our surplus producing rice plantations and our wood-block printing business.
  • I wonder what it would be like if Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism were to combine into one philosophy. Oh wait, it already happened and the name of that philosophy is called Neo-Confucianism.
  • It just came to mind that this shrine is a Zen Buddhist shrine. Zen Buddhism combines Taoism with Buddhism into a syncretic religion. How interesting.
