April 19, 1775, some 700 British troops reach Lexington, Mass, where they find Captain John Parker and 77 militiamen waiting. The British then marched to Concord, Mass, where nearly 1,000 Minutemen and militiamen awaited. They lined the road from Concord to Lexington an opened fire.
