Salvation can exist outside the Church, but not outside Christ.
Martin Luther was nearly struck by lightning when he was young, which led him to become a monk and devote himself to God. His father wanted him to become a lawyer, though.
Now everybody will know about the existence of salvatation.
Let's reprint this to spread his ideas across Europe!
Martin Luther was angered by the activity and corruption happening within Church. He opposed the sell of indulgences by the Pope & Church, and didn't like how people weren’t helping the poor/needy, as well as the charge to see relics. The clergy were breaking the religious laws, the selling of icons & simony, this all resulted in the corruption of the Church.
That heretic! His books must be burned and send the Inquisition after him!
After becoming a professor of theology, Martin Luther begins to question the Church's authority and the existence of salvation outside the Church because he believes that the selling of indulgences to buy salvation goes against the teaching of the Scripture.
Do you recant, or do you not?
Unless proven wrong by Scripture, not the Pope or council, I will not recant my works.
Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the Church door for everybody to see. His ideas quickly spread through Europe because of the printing press. Because of this, the Church calls him a heretic.
Luther is excommunicated from the Church after arguing and angering the Pope over the teachings and interpretations of the Bible & Church. The Pope issued a bull statement that states that Martin's books were to be burnt, and the Inquisition is after him now.
During his trial, Martin says that he won’t recant his works unless his ideas are proven wrong by the Scripture, not the Pope or council. If his ideas and claims are proven wrong by the Bible, then he will recant his works.
