  • The purchasing of the Louisiana territory  
  • i president Jefferson, would like to purchase the Louisiana territory for 15 million dollars.
  • Why it was important
  • Lewis and Clark 
  • Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory from napoleon of France  in 1803. The treaty was dated April 30th, 1803, signed on may 2nd,  ratified in October, and full authority was transferred to the united states. Then Thomas Jefferson appointed William Clark and Meniwether Lewis as map an explore the newly bought territory. 
  • How the natives where involved 
  • The purchase of the Louisiana territory allowed travel down the Mississippi river and  gave control of the port city of New Orleans which is now in the state of Louisiana. Also this  added about 827,000 square miles nearly doubling the size of the united states.
  • actual story
  • The Lewis and Clark Expedition began in  May 1804 .this was the first American expedition to cross what is now the western portion of the United States. The men left st.louis Missouri.

  • along the way the men where accompanied by a native american women named Sacajawea But she did know some of the geography they passed through, and she did interpret for them when they came across Shoshone-speaking Indians.
  • Lewis takes off on an exploratory walk of the north side of the river. Lewis shoots a bison. While he is watching the bison die, a grizzly bear sneaks up on him and chases him into river.
  • after the 2 long years the men where final home and where able to retire. throughout this many discoveries where made about animals and plant of the west.
