This story is about the heroic sacrifice of the Muskrat and Weesakayjack's journey with the other animals in creating live on North America and rebuilding after a horrible storm and flood.
The Legend of Weesakayjack
They needed to get a piece of Earth to rebuild their home after the storm. They used a vine as a rope and sent down the beaver and the otter down to try and get the piece of Earth from the bottom, but with no luck. Finally, the small muskrat volunteered to go down and try to retrive the Earth
They waited and waited for the muskrat to surface but nothing came. They were sure that the Muskrat had died at sea trying to retrive the Earth from the bottom.
When they pulled up the vine, they found the Muskrat dead. Although he had died, he had the piece of Earth that was needed in his paws.
With the Muskrat's sacrifice and the help of the turtle, they were able to create what we know today as North America. This story shows how much the muskrat truly cared and how his immense sacrifice was put to good use.
We can learn a lot from this story by taking care of the area that we are lucky to have. This means we need to practice stewardship for our society by realizing how lucky we are and that we need to take care of our Earth so that future generations can enjoy what we have left for them.
